Pinnacle Point have done it again and triumphed at the World Golf Awards for the third time in the last five years.
The spectacular Peter Matkovich design overlooking the Indian Ocean at Mossel Bay was not only named South Africa’s Best Golf Course, but received an additional award as the Best Course in Africa. There were 27 nominees for the Best SA award. Pinnacle Point went up against nominees from Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia and Kenya for the Best in Africa award.
In another success for South Africa and the Garden Route region, Fancourt was named Africa’s Best Golf Hotel. There were 11 other nominees from SA.
“We are incredibly grateful and honoured for this recognition,” says Peter Dros, Sales and Marketing Director at Fancourt. “Particularly since votes were cast by thousands of golfers from around the world – in what has been an incredibly tough year for the golf tourism and the hospitality industry.”
The World Golf Awards reward excellence in golf tourism, world-class courses and golf destinations. Votes were cast online by members of the golf travel and tourism industry, plus the public. Pinnacle Point previously triumphed in 2016 and 2017, with Royal Johannesburg & Kensington receiving the top Course honours in 2018 and 2019.
“This win is a tremendous accomplishment and fills us with pride,” said Pinnacle Point golf director Quintin Byleveldt.
“It is easy to see why we have earned our reputation as one of the bucket list courses of the world,” said Estate General Manager Carl van der Linde. “We look forward to welcoming many more local and international visitors to Pinnacle Point and giving them one of the most exhilarating golfing experiences of their lives.”
South African golf tour operators were acknowledged at the World Golf Awards. The award for the best inbound tour operator in South Africa went to Golf in the Garden Route & South Africa (www.golfinthegardenroute.com), while Golf Gourmet (www.golfgourmet.co.za) won best outbound tour operator for a fifth consecutive year.
