Wedgewood is an excellent pay-and-play facility which possibly isn’t as appreciated in this part of the Eastern Cape as it would be anywhere else in South Africa where there is a bigger demand for tee times. Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) already has Humewood and PEGC, and Wedgewood is thought to be inconveniently out of the way. So it doesn’t do anywhere near as many rounds as it should. It has a mix of interesting and testing holes (each of the four par 3s are brilliant), and its greens are worth driving any distance to experience. They are, and always have been, sensational in the quality of the roll, speed and design. Good to see work being done to highlight the water hazards bordering fairways. The one right of the tee shot on the par-5 fourth really needs to be more of a defining feature to enhance the aesthetics and danger of a long yet fairly bland hole.
