I played soon after Christmas following heavy rain. Many fairways were soaked, with some resembling muddy marshes in places. The conditions made the course play much longer than usual. It would be wise for Umhlali to try and rectify their drainage issues as this is a persistent problem during wet summers. In terms of design, this is a course I appreciate more every time I play it. There are some beautifully shaped greens and greens complexes.
