Steyn City has a small exclusive membership, yet tee times are available for visitors, notably Saturdays when busier clubs reserve them for members. Steyn City caps the daily number of rounds at 100 though with a one-tee start. As the course is closed on a Monday, that adds up to a maximum of 600 rounds a week played. As a result, even with full-on cart traffic it’s in pristine condition, with the transition to kikuyu grass on the fairways an improvement in playability and conditioning. Steyn City has an outstanding range facility, recently upgraded. A practice bunker and chipping green added, while the hitting bays (mats) have been moved forward to allow golfers to see where their shots are landing. Before, balls disappeared over the brow of a rise. This is a course where you should be hitting every fairway (generously wide), but approach shots to greens are more demanding. A large water hazard is a feature early on in the round at the par-4 second, protecting the green, but they are few and far between (others at 11 and 18) unless you have difficulty getting across the Jukskei River on tee shots at 1 and 9.
