It was pleasing to see the SA PGA Championship awarded to St Francis Links a few years back. Kudos to estate CEO Jeff Clause, a PGA Master Professional. The first two years it was played in November but this year it was a disservice to move it to September, a month when Eastern Cape weather can be at its wildest and the courses far from their best condition. The field was weaker, and to make matters worse the forecast so dire for Sunday that the final 36 holes had to be shoehorned into Saturday with two shotgun starts, possibly a first for the Sunshine Tour. The average score was 75 over four rounds, and the PGA’s position on the calendar should be given more respect in future.
