Sishen hosted the 36-hole Northern Cape Senior Open at the weekend and again no one broke par. Gordon Wessels won with 148 and runner-up Greg Gleeson was 154. Icy cold mid-winter weather (3 degrees Sunday morning) played a part, as did firm fairways and greens, and tricky pin placements. Always a tough event for the best senior amateurs who come from around the country to test their skills. In five events at Sishen going back to 2017 the lowest winning score has been 146, and lowest individual round 71. There are some tough par 4s on the back nine, where you can’t afford to miss the fairway, and three of them, Nos 12, 16 and 18, yielded just three birdies between them.
