Several courses around the country have understandably let standards slip under Covid regulations and a reduction in maintenance staff. But not Royal Cape, even though they no longer have a golf director. This venerable club is still as magnificently presented as always, from the clubhouse furnishings through to all aspects of the golf course. It’s difficult to find anything to fault. It is picture perfect. What remains particularly special about old courses like Royal and others is how quickly you can walk 18 holes. Teeing off late in the afternoon, when the course was quiet, two of us were round in 3 hours. That’s an enjoyable experience.
