Pecanwood has been receiving global media coverage following the remarkable 34-under-par score by 17-year-old Daniel Bennett in the SA Junior Champs. He won by 21 shots. It follows on from the club champs where the A division titles were won by 14-year-old Jayden Jacobs and 13-year-old Megan Marais. Today’s youngsters are finding Pecanwood a birdie paradise. Does Jack Nicklaus know about this? Are his many bunkers no longer in play? No place to hide the pins? Bennett made 33 birdies and an eagle in 72 holes, just one bogey. The only holes he didn’t birdie were Nos 6 and 8. He played the back nine in 21-under for the week, front nine 13-under. And it was just five years ago that Oliver Gillberg won the SA Strokeplay with 27-under at Pecanwood, having 28 birdies and 2 eagles.
