The course was dry, not surprising considering the hot spring weather in the region. I was disappointed with the exceptionally slow greens (many contained foreign grasses), and uneven tees, which need levelling. The par-5 second is a dramatic hole, a thrilling downhill drive from an elevated tee towards a green adjoining a water hazard on the left. However, the aesthetics are poor as no water can be seen in the hazard because it is choked with reeds. Mbombela have also created “environmentally sensitive areas” throughout the course, yet these come across as artificial and unnatural which defeats the purpose.
