Maccauvlei has a rustic feel to it, and a visit there is like stepping back in time. The 1920s clubhouse is magnificent with an old-fashioned pub, and there’s a shady porch overlooking the putting green where members chat to their friends before and after golf. If this course was closer to Johannesburg there would be a waiting list to join. But its remoteness and tranquillity, the natural veld between holes, is what essentially makes it special. The conditioning is brilliant considering this is a club on tight budgets. Green fees are a bargain on quiet weekdays!
