Humewood is playing fair for golfers of all abilities. Greens, fairways and surrounds are not where anyone would like them to be, although the greens are in good nick. This is a true links experience, but at this time of year you can catch it in high winds and you’d wish you were rather playing bowls. It truly is a test to challenge anyone, off any tee. The rough is to be avoided, but the fairways are generous enough. The greens are not overly undulating, but can still be tricky to read because of the subtle breaks. Being a links you can putt off the closely mown fringes from a comfortable distance away. It is the top course in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), so treat yourself if you’re in the area.
