The East layout is recognised as the championship 18, but my favourite 9 is 19 to 27. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is less challenging or fun than 1 to 18. I like it because of the interesting variety of holes, and it’s a fairer test with conventional greens. No 22 is my favourite par 5 at Hermanus. It has an elevated two-tier green guarded on two sides by water. No 27 is a big par 5 from the back tee, yet a wide fairway encourages golfers to launch their driver.
