Goose Valley provides golfers with a most enjoyable layout, set in typically attractive Garden Route surroundings. The design is easy to like, particularly the memorable back nine which contains an excellent mix of outstanding holes, not a weak one among them. The greens are a feature at Goose Valley, beautifully shaped, bunkered and presented. There are some terrific pin positions. And they putt superbly. The front nine begins promisingly with three splendid holes, but holes 4 to 6 among the houses are weak by comparison. And the dogleg par-5 seventh could be so much better if the water hazard could be more easily carried off the yellow and white tees. The risk is too great for anyone other than long hitters. And what’s with the mound hiding the elevated green?
