George is not in the condition one has become accustomed to. Greens haven’t recovered fully since last year’s wet winter. They need more maintenance and TLC. Bunkers: found the sand heavy and inconsistent. Fairways this time of year are muddy. In general, the course lacks attention to detail. The club have embarked on a “tree and vegetation programme” where trees are being trimmed and some felled where they are smothering each other — starting between the fifth and eighth fairways. Invasive species are being removed, and the bush bordering fairways neatened. This will boost pace of play and make the course look a lot neater. The club has a new “Golf Co-ordinator” in Louis Mahne who is there to assist with golf days, marshalling pace of play, and meet and greet.
