Blair Atholl is a true championship course, in sublime condition. Playing the very back tees is something to experience, both humbling and rewarding. A look at birdie or par feels like an achievement, and there are some fearsome forced carries. The three front nine par 3s play 189, 222 and 215 from the black tees. The huge greens complexes at Blair Atholl are remarkable. Landing in the wrong area leaves a lengthy putt. The signature par-3 third is superbly designed with its combination of water fronting a large green with deep bunkers either side. The quality of service matches the course, with a quirky halfway after No 8 holes alongside the Crocodile River. The 19th is similarly enjoyable. Blair Atholl entering the Top 5 in the rankings is just reward for the operations team and greenkeeper.
