Benoni CC is a tale of two nines. The first nine is long (3428 metres), the par 4s repetitive, the terrain less aesthetically pleasing, and the holes largely devoid of inspiring design variety. The back nine then comes as a pleasant surprise by way of contrast. The holes have more interest and sparkle, and the forested surroundings are an attractive improvement on the front nine’s housing estates. The back nine begins and ends with two excellent par 5s where a large body of water is in play off the tee, and there are two shorter par 4s at 14 and 16 to break up the monotony of the longer holes. Many BCC greens are small by comparative standards, notably on the lengthy par 5s (the tenth is tiny and has a curious dip to it on the right), and these together with water hazards adjoining the greens at 3, 14 and 17 make for challenging approaches. The hazard at the 277m 14th encroaches uncomfortably against the edge of the putting surface. The overall conditioning was reflective of a course in the lower reaches of the rankings.
