I’ve been visiting the Wild Coast Sun for five decades, and it’s a place which stands still in terms of time. Club pro Fred Beaver is still to be found in his pro shop, welcoming as always, though he now has a prosthetic right leg and his golfing days are done. The car park is still magnificently shaded by trees for hot tropical days, and the clubhouse with its fabulous light-filled upstairs 19th Hole hasn’t been changed or modernised like so many others. The course too is very much the original layout; no one has tampered with the design. Only its Top 100 ranking is different. No longer a Top 10 destination, although it remains a special and unique venue, one of our best coastal experiences with exceptional playability from 1-18. Pleased to hear Sun International are again investing in the improved upkeep of the course, with irrigation upgrades, and — the best news — a new maintenance provider in Servest who will hopefully restore it to a consistently good condition. Superb value for visitors on a Monday at R375 a player including a shared golf cart.
