Westlake is in great condition given the Cape winter rains. I was pleasantly surprised at how effective the drainage is. A busy course but efficiently operated. Good parkland layout with trees as the main defence. The practice putting green is in good shape and gives an idea of what to expect on the course. If you are not used to putts breaking away from mountains this is where your eyes will be opened. The course is well manicured, fairways in fabulous condition, greens rolling at about 10 on the stimp. Lots of strategic bunkers and only one large water hazard between Nos 7 and 8 which is easily avoidable. A few more water features could make the course more interesting. Scenically a great setting alongside the mountain. Par 3s fairly straightforward, of medium length. The par 4s vary nicely on both nines with a mix of doglegs and straight holes. The par 5s are standard 3-shot approaches for the average golfer, where not too much strategy or risk is required.
