I played The Links a fortnight after its annual hollow-tining and still had a WOW experience. The greens were already remarkably true and quick — a credit to the greenkeeping team. This is a proper test from tee to green, where the fun lies in how links golf demands imagination on every shot. Given the challenge of a championship layout, the excellent caddies play an important role in helping one navigate and enjoy the experience. I noticed the new feature bunker behind the par-3 eighth — one of several subtle continuous improvement projects that define this world-class design. Everything about The Links oozes class, though the men’s locker room could benefit from modernisation. The Links should be on the bucket list of every serious golfer.
