I have been critical of the fact that many of our courses are overwatered, but that has never been the case at Stellenbosch. Director of Golf Louis Destroo and his team understand the importance of presenting firm fairways and greens and it was no surprise to hear the club was successful in their tender for the 2026 SA Open. Even after heavy rain the night before, the course still ran well with fairways consistent and firm and not requiring placing. Greens excellent, with a good mix of flag positions and running at 10.7. Some bunkers were inconsistent, due to the rain, but bunker drainage has been a challenge at Stellenbosch and requires focus. The course unfortunately lost a large number of trees during the 2023 storms, which has affected the playability of some holes. The club has identified this and implemented a programme to rectify it and improve certain holes. Stunning views from the clubhouse balcony to match any golfing experience.
