An outstanding refurbishment of the clubhouse this year. The 19th Hole is so much more comfortable and spacious. Halfway house is splendid. The men’s locker room remains the same though, a gloomy, uninviting space with dark wood lockers and pillars. I had a cold shower too. Perhaps it isn’t used much, so why change it? The course is a favourite of mine, but I’m firmly of the opinion that it’s time to rebuild the green of the par-3 17th. It’s been like that for almost 20 years. Why stick with it? Sloping steeply down from front to back, pin positions are limited to the back portion of the green. It’s a terrific looking hole from the tee, yet the outcome for a good golfer is so predictable. I can understand some golfers like it the way it is — improving their odds on a hole-in-one — but 17 could be so much better with a redesign of the green which creates a variety of pin positions. You can still have that back pin, but a flat front tier section would enhance the hole.
