A test of accuracy off the tee with its well-placed fairway traps. Greens in excellent shape, and the beautiful complexes allow for varied and testing pin positions. Two examples are short par-4 13th and demanding par-5 14th (forming part of the course’s “Amen Corner”) where water guards both greens. Recent rains have refreshed the conditioning, particularly tees and fairways. One area where the club could improve is the general tidiness of runoff areas and around tee boxes. Signage also needs updating. Ruimsig was recently rerated and there have been wholesale stroke index changes based on hole statistics. Stroke 1 is now No 10 instead of No 6 (stroke 4) and stroke 2 is No 2 instead of No 3 which becomes stroke 3. The biggest move was No 1 becoming stroke 6. The four par 5s, which measure more than two kilometres from the white club tees, are lowish strokes between 7 and 10. Ruimsig has a strong finish to the back nine. Two strong 4s at 15-16, then 17 plays 198 from white. The 531m 18th is another example of a demanding tee shot with a narrow landing area between water hazards, while the raised green is hidden from view behind a bunker. There are weekday green fee specials.
