I was pleasantly surprised to see the growth and hard work put in at Firethorn. The course itself was not where I remember it, but the clubhouse facilities have been upgraded to the next level. After finding my share of bunkers on the day, it was fair to say they played tough due to the high lips and surrounds, on most of the fairway bunkers, not enabling a reasonable chance to escape. Fairways were in excellent condition and the greens, albeit bumpy (maybe from an over-congested field on a holiday), running at a slick and playable speed. I would like to see more attention paid to the finer details of conditioning. This top course needs work.
