A remarkable still morning at Pinnacle Point makes a glorious setting for golf. The course is in magnificent condition and a treat to play. Dolphins to be seen in the ocean below the cliffs, and a pair of raptors (buzzards or eagles with white plumage on the underside of their wings) was riding the thermals low over the 12th green looking for prey. One of them occasionally rested on the chimney of a house which stands on the edge of the cliffside. No 12 is one of the most fabulous 4s at Pinnacle, uniquely brilliant. The five tees vary from 375m to 254m, and the further back and more elevated you go the scarier the tee shot becomes. Being so high above the fairway you are looking at a narrow landing area. Left is in the houses and right is heading for the ocean. You can bail out left on a steep bank, but that leaves a tricky stance for the approach shot into a cleverly designed green. No 14 is another terrific 4 along the cliff edge. Whereas at 12 you play down to the green, this is an equally testing uphill approach to another beautifully shaped green. The clubhouse is currently being upgraded and will reopen in December.
