Pecanwood again succumbed to extraordinarily low scoring in the latest tournament hosted by the estate. A forgiving course for club golfers, it proved no match for the tour pros in ideal conditions. Victor Danie van Tonder had 28 birdies and one eagle and only three bogeys in 72 holes. Pecanwood was in good shape and the greens a dream to putt on. Average score was 69.5, which is six shots lower than the course rating of 75.6 from the championship tees (7040 metres). There were 2098 birdies and 73 eagles. Unusually, there were eagles on 9 different holes. Par 3s were the most challenging holes, 17 (207m) being toughest, followed by No 3 (162) and No 8 (215). The only par 4 to play over par was No 6 (434), stroke 1, at 4.12. Only one par 5, the 582m dogleg left seventh, avoided a deluge of birdies, and averaged 4.83 which is testament to its excellent design. There were 37 players on a total of 15-under or better. Individually the lowest rounds were 62, one by Van Tonder with ten 3s on his card.
