Paarl lost many mature pine trees throughout the course in last year’s storms, most noticeably left of the par-4 13th hole where several homes can now be seen. There is a new tee box on this hole, left of the 12th green, and it presents an interesting angle to the fairway. Some trees too went down around the 13th green, but it hasn’t affected this dogleg hole, one of the best on the back nine. Tee shot has to be positioned perfectly on the fairway to have the ideal approach shot to a beautifully crafted big green. The erosion on No 8 alongside the Berg River is creeping slowly closer to the fairway. Paarl cannot afford to lose this unique 4. The angled green is a great piece of design for a shortish hole and adds to its challenge.
