A feature of the changing room at Mossel Bay is that former member Louis Oosthuizen has a double locker with an etching of the claret jug on the front of one, while the other has a glass front and inside a collection of his clothing (possibly those he wore at St Andrews in the 2010 Open), from shoes at the bottom to a cap and golf balls at the top. This is one of SA’s busiest courses, 53 000 rounds the past year, and it’s easy to see why it is so popular. The course is in good condition, with excellent greens, and it’s an interesting design and very playable. It’s a relatively short course, so the challenge lies in the greens which boast a variety of slopes that have to be worked out. The four par 5s are among the best holes, each of them quite individual and full of character. And two particularly strong par 4s on the front nine, at No 3 and 9. Big let down at the final hole which is a disappointing uphill short par 4.
