The course does not give a feeling of being a 9-holer with its 14 separate greens. The greens are the best part of the course, arguably the finest in Cape Town, running at 11.5 on the day with excellent and consistent coverage. A well manicured course, with no placing on the fairways, something more courses need to strive towards. Bunker sand was at times inconsistent and pace of play not ideal. The Met is blessed with a unique setting, surrounded by views of the Cape Town Stadium, Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, and Signal Hill, topped off with a unique aural experience of the Noon Gun firing from its battery on the lower slopes of Signal Hill. The two green cannons (one on standby in case of a misfire) are 230 years old and have been fired since February 1806. They are reportedly the oldest daily used guns in the world. Each cannon weighs more than two tons and is loaded with 1.5kg of gunpowder.
