Maccauvlei presents a challenge with its small greens, guarded by bunkers which attract a wayward shot. Putting surfaces excellent and roll true. Shaping and variety of design in the greens complexes is a strength of the course. The variation of pin placements makes it fun with back pins ready to test you. Fairways are excellent adding to the overall quality of presentation. The stretch from 15 to 18 is superb, 15 a reachable 5 alongside the Vaal River and 16 a short 3. No 17 is one of my favourite holes with its cavernous bunker guarding the green short and left, while 18 is a birdie opportunity as a shortish 5 (444 white). Great clubhouse memorabilia with images of Masters champion Charl Schwartzel and signed artefacts. Charl grew up at Maccauvlei, a great place to learn the game. To vary shot shapes, trajectories and focus on your accuracy off the tee due to the narrow landing areas on tight fairways.
