Knysna is a quirky layout in a beautiful setting. Conditioning continues to improve, and greens are excellent. Pace of the putting surfaces is impressive, and attention to detail noticeable. A key feature is the many penalty areas that come into play off the tee and on approach shots into well guarded greens. Most 4s are short (less than 350m off white tees) but still capably defend par. The sixth is superb, with a demanding tee shot to a narrow fairway framed by penalty areas on both sides. No 7 at 262m can be reached off the tee, yet has a strong “risk-reward” feel. Bunkers in good shape consistent across the course. No 9 remains a work in progress. This quality par 5 is being played as a short 3 while the hole is rehabilitated. Strong back 9 begins with Amen Corner from 10 to 12. Good service and a beautiful clubhouse complete the picture at this well-run club.
