This Robert Trent Jones design is fun to play. Testing off the tee, with narrow landing areas and exacting approaches, the 4s are strong and there are 12 of them — the par is 70. Variety in design and distances makes for a varied round which doesn’t seem mundane. Nos 2-7-10 are personal favourites. The second has a small, well-guarded green next to the deep sluit running through the course, while No 7 (stroke 3) plays uphill on the approach and has a beautiful green. No 10 is a brute in length with par a great score. The 3s are similarly varied (4-6-14-17) and different clubs will be required for each. The finishing 4s on both nines are excellent, with water, bunkers and mature trees defending par. Killarney has some of the best putting surfaces in Gauteng. Its location makes for easy access from the M1 highway. A good 19th completes a solid offering.
