Greens in great condition and have been for several of my past visits. I struggle with the par-5 opening hole (542m) where a deep gully comes into play on the left of the fairway about 150 from the green. A good drive brings the gully into play with the second shot, so it is often practical to lay up short of this hazard and rather have a long and difficult third shot into a tricky raised green complex. If you hit a poor drive, it doesn’t really matter, as you would then have to lay up. The hole makes for limited options unless you drive the ball a long way. Jackal Creek has grown on me over the years, but I wouldn’t dare to walk it anymore as I did in earlier years. There are lengthy walks between green and tee, and that’s not taking into account the hundreds of metres from the ninth green back to the clubhouse for halfway. I would suggest a repeat visit is necessary to appreciate the course as the first time can be perplexing on certain holes.
