Goose Valley is one of the Garden Route’s most popular courses, combining an attractive setting and clubhouse with a well-conditioned and enjoyable layout. The greens had just been hollow-tined and were covered in sand, yet golfers were out playing at a highly discounted green fee rate. It becomes seriously busy in February and March when there is an influx of foreign holidaymakers. Tee times are virtually fully booked for February. Many of those visitors are international members of Goose Valley, paying an annual sub of R5242 which gives them special Southern Cape rates at all the other courses within the golf union. Goose also has one of the best practice facilities in the eastern part of the Garden Route, as clubs like Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, Simola and Pezula are deficient in that area. The back nine at Goose offers a strong challenge and tremendous holes before easing up at 17 and 18 with two short 4s. The 18th green is surrounded by five revetted pot bunkers which makes for one of the tightest greens to hit, even with a short iron.
