A return round after a long absence at one of my favourite courses. Delightful surroundings, and all who love Goldfields West will be thankful to owner Hans Vierra for saving it from closure. He’s also helping save many trees on the property from dying, which would be a tragedy. They were becoming infested with the Shot Hole Borer Beetle which has afflicted our trees since this Asian beetle was first detected in KZN in 2017 and began to spread around the country, a national ecological disaster. However, it can be eradicated if discovered early and the affected trees treated. An ArborJet drill injects a formulation into a tree to kill the beetle larvae, and this solution is plugged inside affected trees to restore their health. It’s a leading instrument in the fight against deadly tree insects.
