Glendower was busy on a Saturday morning, the end of the club’s festival week with colourful outfits being worn by members. Our tee time was delayed by 15 minutes, but the field moved swiftly the rest of the day. Glendower has potent rough around the greens, which coupled with trees close to greens can make for tough recovery shots if you miss a green. Course is in excellent condition and lush. The four tee colours are nicely balanced, about 500 metres difference between each of them, which is outstanding Playability for a wide variety of players. Those using the blue tees (5981) have a bonus in that three of the par 5s play short. No 2 is 417 metres, No 8 is 430 and No 15 just 415. It does open up the prospect of longer hitters going for each of these greens in two, although there is considerable risk of ending up with a 6 at any of them if you’re not straight. Water guards the left side of No 2, No 8 has a narrow alleyway into the green, and bunkers can trap the unwary on the 15th fairway.
