Outeniqua is recognised as a course where exceptionally low scores will invariably happen in pro tournaments. Wilco Nienaber shot 60 (it would have been a course record except placing was allowed) in winning the NTT Data Pro-Am with a 27-under 262 over the three Fancourt courses (two rounds at Montagu). He played Outeniqua in the first round and had an eagle and four birdies on each nine. Outeniqua averaged 69.75 while the Montagu was 71.19. The Links, not surprisingly, was toughest at 72.19, but it is par 73. Interestingly, the two most challenging par 5s at Fancourt were the eighth and 11th at Outeniqua. No 11 (507) is a terrific risk-reward dogleg right hole, and water left of the green is a potent threat thanks to the run-off area alongside the long, narrow green. The average score there was 5.02 which is unusual for pro events. Attractive water hazards are a feature of the Outeniqua design (on 12 holes), and the toughest hole was the par-3 fourth (184) with its large green jutting out into the dam which runs all the way back to the tee. It averaged 3.17.
