Outeniqua must have the best-looking bunkers in SA. They frame many of the holes magnificently with their white sand and high faces. The course underwent a significant bunker project, with several removed or moved, others decreased in size, or in some cases two separate bunkers turned into one. The outcome has both beautified the layout and added to the challenge. The visual wow factor begins on the opening hole. At No 10 only one bunker remains on this shortish par 4, behind the green. Three large ponds now guard the left side of fairway. No 10 is one of several outstanding holes on Outeniqua which often go under the radar. Hit a tee shot too close to the green and you face a tricky pitch over the stream in front, especially to a front pin. No 5 is Fancourt’s best short 4, water all the way down the right side from tee to green. Scary approach to a narrow green, with a long bunker left and water right. Easy to get it wrong, difficult to hit it close. Outeniqua has always been known as a fun outing, yet the pace of the greens and subtle slopes will examine your chipping and putting skills like few others.
