DCC has undergone a magnificent transformation following its upgrade. The design variety is outstanding with varied directions of play across the course, and length added on to six holes for championship play. The memorability factor is up with the best in SA golf, changes in elevation providing a stern test for tee shots and approaches. The course’s defence is mainly the prevailing winds which means shortish par 3s and 4s become a real test. The most famous 3 is the Prince of Wales (128m 12th). The green was rebuilt to include a severe central gully, likely to torment members! The low stroke holes are among the best — the Stroke 1 fifth (410) and Stroke 2 11th (406). The clearing out of undergrowth across the course has opened up sight lines and improved playability. The most significant change is the replanted and reshaped greens complexes. Many putting surfaces are outstanding, with interesting slopes and enhanced pin placement options for tournaments. DCC will improve year on year and remain a timeless classic “where champions walk.”
