Bryanston is looking a picture at this time of year, with changing autumn colours adding to the attractiveness of the parkland layout. Course is in superb condition, although the greens don’t look especially good. The second green was pock-marked with poa. They are putting well though on the eve of the club championships. There is a rumour that the greens will be replanted soon and some of the trickier sloping ones rebuilt, certainly that at the par-5 second which would be so much better if lowered to the same level as the water hazard fronting it. Course has generally drained well. The new fairway irrigation system, opened at the end of 2024, hasn’t had to be used so far. An elderly willow tree right of the fairway on the par-4 16th has fallen, possibly to the relief of golfers whose approach shot to the green was impeded by its branches overhanging the fairway edge. This is one of four outstanding long 4s on the back nine (10-12-16-18) which contribute towards making this one of the best back 9s in Gauteng in terms of challenge, design variety and aesthetics. However, the artificial ponds fronting the par-3 14th green are out of character for the overall theme.
