Benoni CC is in excellent shape after hosting the Sunshine Tour’s Gary & Vivienne Player Invitational. It was won by Malcolm Mitchell on 12-under 204 for 54 holes. The lowest rounds were a pair of 64s. Greens running true. There has been an impressive upgrade to all the bunkers. The aesthetics, framing and consistency of the bunkers is remarkable. This parkland course has many narrow landing areas and risk-reward tee shots. The pressure off the tee is clear with trees guarding both sides of fairways. BCC is more about finesse than “bomb and gouge” play. Pin placements were testing on the day we played. The greens are relatively small. The longer 4s are demanding, with the back tees presenting 450m plus holes. The collection of 3s is enjoyable, No 3 being my favourite (170 off white) with its narrow, well-guarded green. Clubhouse facilities are good adding to the overall experience.
