Top quality greens and attractive scenery made for an enjoyable outing on this modern layout. It’s a good strong course, challenging when the wind blows, 9 holes with two distinctly different parts to it. The opening three holes are the weakest in that they are similar in design over exposed hilly terrain, with nothing to define them in the way of landscaping. No 1 is questionable in that there’s a short cut to the green which avoids using the fairway or taking on the bunkers. The lies off the fairways are poor though. But from No 4 onwards the course takes off in thrilling fashion. The fourth tee is the highest point of the property, with awesome views over Witbank Dam, a long dogleg left par 4/5 which plunges downhill towards the dam. That’s followed by a downhill par 3, before you skirt the edge of the dam with two superb 4s and a short 3. The round ends with a strong uphill 4 where there’s water on the left, and a bunker fronting the green. The greens were magnificent and a feature of the design. However, the slope on 9/18 is a bit hairy, as is that on the stroke 1, No 7, where the green is guarded by water.
